Book summary
Law, like politics and our own life, faces enormous questions that originate from the growing and innovative scientific-technological applications. Such is the case addressed in the book that is the subject of the presentation: the challenges posed by lethal autonomous weapons, an arms advance that includes the use of emerging technologies for the design of lethal weapons for military and security purposes, endowed with almost autonomy absolute power to perform critical functions (such as targeting and attack) and therefore with little – or no – level of significant human control.
Over time, autonomous weapons have occupied spaces in the media, in the cinema and, progressively, in specialized study and reflection. Today its legal, strategic, moral and ethical implications are the subject of intense discussions among governments, the private sector and civil society in general. For this reason, this work is especially relevant, since it offers the reader an academic, interdisciplinary, cross-sectional and prospective analysis of the promises and risks that these weapons represent for humanity.
